The holiday season usually comes with a race to the top of the charts for any band, singer, or music producer, as they all take aim for the Christmas miracle that is a Christmas number-one hit. Now, he might not be there just yet, but with the soundtrack to his recent Christmas movie, Spirited, having placed above the season’s stalwart ‘White Christmas’ by Bing Crosby, Ryan Reynolds finds himself in a festive mood.
Reynolds is on a mission to ingratiate himself into every known genre of film, from horror (The Amityville Horror) to rom-com (The Proposal), children’s animation (The Croods) to dramas (The Woman in Gold), and now he is adding the obligatory annual Christmas musical to the list. Spirited is Reynolds’s most recent film, a new take on Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol which sees him starring alongside Will Ferrell as the classic holiday story gets a bit of a makeover.
Now the Deadpool actor is celebrating the fact that the soundtrack to the film has placed fairly well on the charts, and as we only get closer to Christmas, there is a chance it could even come after Nickelback. Reynolds wrote on the image he posted, “I can now officially describe myself as ‘somewhere between Bing Crosby and Nickelback.'”
As it is indeed a musical, the film’s soundtrack includes a number of festive and humorous songs, including “That Christmas Morning Feelin,” “The Story of Your Life,” and “Do A Little Good,” all of which were released on Nov. 18, in line with the movie’s release on Apple TV Plus after a limited run in theatres.
It isn’t a surprise that they’re doing relatively well given that the songs were written by Academy Award-winning duo, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for the hit musical Dear Evan Hansen, as well as their work in La La Land and The Greatest Showman.
You can catch Spirited available to watch on Apple TV Plus, or if you just want to listen to the sonorous tones of Reynolds and Ferrell crooning away, you can simply listen to the soundtrack available on Apple Music or, the classic, Spotify.
