Selma Blair was arrested following an incident on a Delta Air Lines flight to New York City, where she allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another, according to People. Law enforcement was waiting when the plane landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport Sunday night.
A representative for Selma Blair addressed the situation the following day, saying the actress had suffered a health crisis. “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” the representative said.
Dispatch audio obtained by the outlet suggests the injuries were minor. One responder described “a bloody nose as well as some bite marks,” saying one flight attendant and one passenger were hurt. The dispatcher added that the disruptive passenger appeared to have bashed her head on the bulkhead.
Now the FBI and New York prosecutors are both involved
The Port Authority confirmed that two flight attendants reported injuries, with one requiring hospital care, and Selma Blair was also taken to a hospital for evaluation. The FBI is now investigating, as the agency handles all assaults aboard aircraft. However, a spokesperson declined to say more, citing long-standing DOJ policy on ongoing investigations.
Blair was later charged with two counts of second-degree assault in Queens, as prosecutors accuse her of kicking a Port Authority officer and a hospital nurse after landing. She pleaded not guilty and was released on $20,000 bail. The FBI has also reportedly issued her a federal violation notice charging assault over the alleged conduct on the flight.
Delta said the flight landed ahead of schedule with no operational impact. “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” an airline spokesperson said. Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton faces a suspension over a separate incident reportedly involving him on a May commercial flight.
Blair has faced trouble in the air before, as she was carried off a Delta flight from Cancun, Mexico, to Los Angeles on a stretcher in 2016. She later explained that she had mixed alcohol with medication, which caused her to black out, and said she was a flawed human being filled with shame.
Blair, who was diagnosed with MS in 2018, had shared updates on her travel schedule via Instagram before the flight. She posted photos of herself and her service dog, Scout, noting that the pair had been busy traveling between Los Angeles, New Mexico, and New York City.
Blair said in 2021 that her disease had gone into remission, and she has continued working in the industry since. She was scheduled to appear at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, this weekend. However, she is now due back in court in January to answer the state assault charges.
