‘Send all units’: Britney Spears arrested after hour-long chase, 911 call reveals

Could this land her back in the conservatorship she fought so hard to end?

On March 4, 2026, Southern California police pursued Britney Spears for about an hour before arresting her on suspicion of DUI, according to a 911 dispatch call reporting someone driving erratically at high speeds, the Daily Mail has reported.

According to the transcript, a dispatcher described, “A black sedan, erratic braking, swerving, and driving with no taillight.” An officer later requested, “Can we send all units down towards this area, please?” The Daily Mail says the pursuit started at around 7:13 pm and ended about an hour later, with the driver “out of the vehicle,” an officer said.

Another officer says they are “talking with the driver.” Yet another officer requested a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), trained to determine whether a driver is impaired, to arrive immediately at the scene.

Spears’ mental health concerns

Since her 13‑year conservatorship ended, Spears has made sporadic public appearances but remained active on social media, often posting dancing videos, cryptic messages, personal reflections on her past, or commentary on her life and relationships.

These posts have at times drawn concern for their content or tone, including videos some observers called “erratic.” Kevin Federline, her ex‑husband, publicly claimed in 2025 that some videos showed her with a knife and suggested possible substance influence.

Spears’ earlier life featured well‑documented struggles with mental health and public breakdowns in the mid‑2000s, including very public partying and a 2008 psychiatric hold that helped lead to the original conservatorship.

Federline’s claims

In his 2025 memoir You Thought You Knew, Spears’ ex‑husband, Federline, made several other controversial claims about her past substance use and behavior. He alleges that during their marriage in the mid‑2000s, Spears drank alcohol while on medication and while pregnant, which he described as “dangerous” when mixed with prescription drugs.

Federline also claims that at a 2006 album release party she was found using cocaine in his dressing room, then returned home and breastfed their child shortly afterward, an episode he says triggered their marital breakdown.

Federline additionally recounts erratic behavior around their children, including allegations that their sons sometimes found her standing silently in their bedroom doorways holding a knife. He writes that these patterns contributed to long‑term concern over her well‑being and parenting.

Spears has publicly disputed these characterizations, describing the memoir as emotionally hurtful and asserting she has no serious drug problem, only occasional alcohol use and no interest in hard drugs.

After her March 4 arrest, officers took Spears into custody under suspicion of DUI, and she was booked into the Ventura County jail before being released early the next morning under a standard “cite‑and‑release” procedure.

Blood alcohol tests are still pending as part of the ongoing investigation; formal charges will be determined by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office based on those results. Spears’ representative and team have publicly stated she intends to cooperate with authorities, comply with legal requirements, and take steps toward positive changes in her life. Her representative called the arrest “inexcusable,” and said she is taking responsibility with support from loved ones, according to Reuters.
