Simu Liu shares what all of the Kens were doing instead of that ‘Barbie’ sleepover

What goes down in the life of a Ken when Barbie is busy?

Most of the promotion for the Barbie movie focuses on the Barbies and their lifestyle. But what about the Kens? This week, the male dolls in this toy universe have been placed under the spotlight as Simu Liu shared what all the Kens do when they’re not with Barbie.

Liu spoke with Rotten Tomatoes and revealed that while the Barbies hang out, all the Kens are off doing their own thing. One might assume that they are simply set aside with nothing to do, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. According to the actor, all the Kens work out and exercise while the Barbies enjoy their sleepover.

Liu also mentioned that this was something Greta Gerwig wanted all the Kens to do, so they could bond as a group. Can you imagine all those actors hanging out in the gym while Margot Robbie and the rest of the female cast have a pillow fight?

Some might think Liu’s statement was just a joke or a promotional stunt. However, if you pay attention to all the trailers for the film, you’ll notice that the Kens are often shirtless or wearing tank tops. Not to mention, in the “Just Ken” ballad performed by Ryan Gosling, there was a scene in which Ken was working out and showing off his muscles to Barbie.

So there’s a high chance that Liu wasn’t lying when he claimed that this is what Gerwig wanted, especially considering Ken’s physique is showcased in the film. Hopefully, fans will get to see all the Kens working out together somewhere in Barbieland when Barbie hits theaters on July 21, 2023.
