Sydney Sweeney teases her ‘unhinged’ upcoming horror movie

The movie will be her first outing as a producer.

There is no denying that Sydney Sweeney is a very hot topic in Hollywood these days after her breakout roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus. Sitting down with Deadline the day after the debut of her political thriller Reality at the 73rd Berlin Film Festival, Sweeney relished in the critical acclaim it was getting as she also teased her next movie in the works, a psychological horror in which she not only stars but produces, called Immaculate.

Taking one win at a time, Reality is the true story of Reality Winner, the former US Air Force member and NSA translator who was charged with “removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet” according to the Justice Department. She plead guilty and was sentenced to 63 months, the longest prison term for anyone charged with the “unauthorized release of government information to the media” according to her prosecutors.

Tina Satter originally wrote the play Is This A Room that she later adapted into Reality with James Paul Dallas, and Satter also directed the film. The film didn’t take that long to shoot; as Sweeney explained, it took “16 days, and everyone puts so much into the process, so it’s beautiful to have the premiere here and see the reviews we’re getting.”

So, what’s next for Sydney Sweeney?

Fans are about to lose their minds as they learn that what she’s planning next is a straight-up psychological horror. Immaculate is the story of Cecilia, played by Sweeney. Things are drastically not what they seem when this devout lady takes a new position at a convent located in the beautiful Italian countryside.

Of the dark and horrifying secrets the movie promises, Sweeney gloated, “It’s madness. I go unhinged, which always is fun. But it’s also beautiful. I really wanted to make sure that it was a beautifully shot horror film because we were filming in such a beautiful location. Rome is stunning, so I wanted to do the locations justice.”

Taking on producing as well as acting in the same movie seems like a huge jump, but she was ready to tackle it without hesitation, “I’ve always loved building my characters, and I also wanted to build worlds, so I love being involved in the creative process behind the camera before the actors show up. I love learning about the mechanics behind films and TV shows.”

Also starring Simona Tabasco from The White Lotus as well, Immaculate will be coming soon to a theater or a streaming platform near you.
