‘They’ve got too much going on here’: Dionne Warwick officially tenders her resignation as Twitter CEO

Dionne Warwick playfully steps down as Twitter chief.

Dionne Warwick may be a living legend, but she’s also loved a beloved sass queen who couldn’t resist giving Chief Twit Elon Musk a playful jab.

At 82 years young, the iconic vocalist took to the Twitter platform and humorously relinquished her honorary self-appointed CEO position, after previously being headhunted by former boss Jack Dorsey to join the platform’s staff prior to Musk’s takeover in October 2022.

Warwick’s statement coincides with a wave of celebrities migrating from Twitter to Threads, a rival app created by Meta. This “Twitter Killer” has impressively amassed 100 million users in just five days. A lineup of notable figures, including Oprah Winfrey, Ellen Degeneres, and Sarah Jessica Parker, are already flocking to Mark Zuckerberg’s brainchild. Twitter’s traffic has already suffered, as the Meta CEO positions himself to deliver a financial blow to Musk, who persistently and fruitlessly attempted to goad him into a cage fight.

While Warwick may have stepped down as the honorary CEO, she remains an active presence on Twitter, where she has garnered a devoted following. With over 100 million records sold to date, she continues to make an impact. Earlier this year, she released the uplifting duet “Peace Like A River” with Dolly Parton. The track, penned by Parton and produced by Warwick’s talented son Damon Elliott, a music impresario who has also collaborated with artists like Beyoncé, Reba McEntire, Tom Morello, and the late Olivia Newton-John.

Though currently recovering from a minor health issue, Warwick will soon resume her nationwide tour on August 9. Her enduring sense of humor remains intact, undiminished by her convalescence.

While Warwick may have stepped down from her honorary CEO role, she will forever reign as the Queen of Twitter.
