Tom Cruise took ‘Mission: Impossible’ co-star’s grandmother on an impromptu helicopter tour

Only a few days are left until the much-anticipated Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One graces the screen, and we are already getting to learn a lot about the real-life Ethan Hunt, and this time it’s Tom Cruise’s big-heartedness that is winning millions of hearts.

It so happened that in a recent interview, franchise debutant Hayley Atwell told Entertainment Tonight about how Cruise gave her grandmother a memorable moment of her life by taking her on a tour of London. The whole arrangement was planned and meant to be a surprise.

“The first thing that comes to mind for me is that he took my grandmother in a helicopter on Christmas Eve and gave her a tour of London. I didn’t tell her it was coming, because I knew that she wouldn’t — there’s no way she would get into a helicopter. I took her to a helicopter base in central London that had, like, a cafe attached to it, and we’re having a cup of tea and I said, ‘Oh, some helicopters out there,’ and she went, ‘Oh, you wouldn’t get me in one of those things. We surprised her and Tom came walking around the car. It was so sweet, because my grandmother was like, ‘Hiya, Tom, how are you darling?!’ and talked to him like he was one of her own.”

Speaking further, Atwell shared her grandmother’s happiness and enthusiasm for seeing Cruise ridding her of her fear of helicopters. Overall, they had a wonderful time together.

Using this episode as a reference, Atwell spoke about how this isn’t the first time Cruise expressed such heartwarming kindness as throughout filming, the Mission Impossible star maintained and acted on his benevolent demeanor. “He walks into the room, he knows everyone’s name, and he gives everyone his time. Very gracious, really charming,” she added regarding Cruise’s behavior on the set.

Even a conversation with Cruise on the matter also turned out to be delightful, as the actor not only narrated his wonderful experience of being a tour guide to Atwell’s grandmother, but also took the opportunity to praise Atwell’s performance in the movie.
