Yesterday, former President Donald Trump’s prediction he would be arrested turned out to not come true. Still though, it is not guaranteed it will not happen, and, with his desire for showmanship, rumors say he is planning for an over-the-top media moment.
A new article published by The Guardian cites sources close to Trump who say if he is arrested and has to appear in court on charges he allegedly paid adult film star Stormy Daniels hush money in a violation of campaign finance law (which his own lawyer once thought was a crime), he wants to be handcuffed. Trump purportedly thinks being marched for a walk with his hands bound behind his back would solidify his base of support in the 2024 election and any special process would make him look sad.
The report goes on to note that while the United States Secret Service has security concerns about any public appearance, Trump apparently does not care. A source tells the outlet he has told friends and allies that the prospect of being shot does not bother him, since he would become a martyr, and he also believes such an injury would guarantee him victory over President Joe Biden next November.
What will come next does remain to be seen. For now, a grand jury is convening on Wednesday – this is usually a sign they are on course to return an indictment — and while many of Trump’s rivals and sycophants have rushed to defend him, others are taking a different approach. Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has recently said he does not know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star, and in a sign his own 2024 campaign is near, has begun to take more shots at Trump’s character as of late.
