What was Zayn Malik’s 2021 incident with Yolanda Hadid?

After two years, pop star Zayn Malik decided to address an important subject. That is, his altercation with ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid’s mother, Yolanda Hadid, in 2021 when the latter accused Malik of having struck her during a fight. Various accounts of the incident were presented.

A source closer to Malik mentioned that the fight with Yolanda erupted when the latter unexpectedly appeared at Malik’s residence when he was taking care of his daughter Khai. The visit culminated in an argument as, during the quarrel, Zayn allegedly humiliated Hadid and further warned her to stay away from his daughter.

Things no doubt became messy after the piece of news attracted enormous popular and media attention, and the issue got even worse when the “Story of My Life” singer, albeit denying Hadid’s accusations, maintained reticence on the allegations made against him.

This carried on until today after the singer appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast to finally break his silence on the issue. Expectedly, this piqued popular curiosity and interest to know Malik’s side of the story.

What is Zayn Malik’s response to the subject?

Despite his readiness to shed some light on his fight with the Hadid matriarch, the One Direction singer’s current response to the issue is vague as he mentioned that the reason why he refused to explicitly take a stand against Yolanda’s claims was to not draw attention to a conflict he deemed a “family affair,” as well as to refrain from deepening the rift between him and Yolanda.

“I knew what the situation was, I knew what happened, and the people involved knew what happened too and that’s all I really cared about. If anybody of a sane mind would look at the situation, I believe you could respect that I just didn’t want to bring attention to anything, y’know? I wasn’t trying to get into a negative back and forth with her.”

Adding to the comment, he said,

“I don’t tend to get involved when people say things online, whether it’s got something to do with me or whether it doesn’t. Because, for me, my most valuable thing that I have in life is time, and that takes so much time in a toxic environment to explain yourself to people and justify this so I just kind of keep to myself. If something happens in the family, I’d rather keep that between the family, you know? You don’t need a whole audience of people and opinions because it’s hard enough to manage between two.”

In the same year, four harassment allegations were made against Malik. Aside from “grabbing Yolanda and shoving her into a dresser,” he was also blamed for misconduct against one of his former girlfriends, hurling insults at Gigi as well as assaulting the security guard, John McMahon. The singer who refused to argue against every accusation at the time faced serious consequences, which included a 90-day probation and anger management class.

Everything aside, Zayn’s relationship with the Hadids is indeed a complicated one, and notwithstanding his opinion on the issue, we will keep our eyes peeled for more updates.
