Why did Anna Faris and Chris Pratt divorce?

Just why they split is complex.

Marriages between big entertainers do not generally stand the test of time. Those which do are considered an aberration and when one crumbles after years, it is often a shock to fans. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris are an example, and just why they split is complex.

For those who do not keep up with such things, the Marvel star and Mom actress met on the set of Take Me Home Tonight in 2007 and got married in 2009. Their time together produced one son and ultimately they announced their separation in 2017 before it was finalized the following year. Just what exactly happened is unclear — early reports cited irreconcilable differences — and, while there were rumors Pratt cheated on Faris with Jennifer Lawrence while filming Passengers in 2016, Faris denied this in her memoir Unqualified. Furthermore, as divorce records in California can be entirely or partially sealed, we cannot look to the courts for a precise indication and so, the only way to really have any sort of idea is by checking anonymous sources.

Last year, Insider reported that Faris had stated on her Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast that her hand ultimately was forced in the situation. She said she felt there were a lot of things she ignored which she should not have, it did not feel like an “independent decision,” and she struggled to open up about how she was feeling. As for Pratt, he has generally kept things private since first revealing the pair were going their separate ways, but, in 2020 sources told US Weekly that part of his logic was he never felt good enough for Faris and he did not like who he was when they started to have difficulties. Grain of salt, but it certainly is a plausible explanation to a degree.

Since then, the pair have found new partners in the form of Micheal Bennett and Katherine Schwarzenegger, respectively, and in contrast to many exes have remained on good terms. Faris told People in 2022 they have all grown closer and, while they did not gather for Thanksgiving that year, they plan on doing so in the future.

Going through a divorce and remaining friends with children involved can be tricky, but it sounds like they’ve managed to pull it off masterfully.
