At the end of today’s issue of Civil War II #8 (which also provided some answers about Iron Man’s fate), we got a look at some big changes possibly coming to the Marvel Universe. Why? Well, if you read Marvel’s titles you’ll know that every event is followed by a long list of relaunches and new #1 issues, and it appears as if The Defenders will be among them. However, this iteration of the team has a lot more in common with the version seen on the small screen rather than previous iterations made up of heroes like Doctor Strange and Namor.

As you can see below, the new team boasts Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. That’s the roster we’ll see on Netflix next year when The Defenders is finally released, and it appears as if Marvel is now making this group a street level team of superheroes in the comics rather than a B-List Avengers.

That’s not a bad idea, but it’s one that’s sure to elicit a few groans. Fans have been very critical of the way Marvel’s comic book division looks to copy what’s happening on the big or small screens in recent years, because while it may be a smart way of attracting new readers, it can be a little frustrating for those used to seeing these characters portrayed in a certain way. Still, with little to no details available on this take on The Defenders as of right now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds in store for the team.
