Our Favorite EDM Songs From May 2015

With the festival circuit now in full swing, May turned out to be a veritable mother lode of quality tracks from every shade of the dance music spectrum. This is the time of year at which every artist's management gives them the okay to finally drop whatever gems they've been sitting on to the public - and for good reason, as all it can take for a song to become a summer anthem is the right DJ playing it in front of the right crowd.

5) Grum – Builder

Recommended Videos

Grum has followed in the footsteps of contemporary progressive house DJs like Eric Prydz who make music that better fits the genre’s old definition more than its new one – but with updated, innovative sound design elements. The Scotsman captured more people’s attention than just our own, apparently, as his last few releases have arrived through the Anjunabeats record label.

“Builder” features Grum’s signature blend of proper progressive house with trance-y synth work for just the right level of mass appeal, making for a mainstay that straddles both musical worlds.

6) The Martinez Brothers (Under Masters At Dutch Alias) – Come to Kingsbridge

The Brooklyn-based Martinez Brothers have received enough support from across the pond to cement their emerging legacy as underground house artists, and they’ve chosen to thank their fans in a fittingly throwback fashion.

Teaming up with fellow New Yorkers Jesse Calosso and Blas Cordero under the project Masters at Dutch, they’ve released a ten-track EP as an homage to ’90s New York house that pays tribute to the genre’s soulful origins.

Of the ten tracks, we picked “Come to Kingsbridge” as the strongest for its funky instrumentals and classic groove. With how much the scene has changed, it’s reassuring to see artists like the Martinez Brothers act as stewards of its illustrious origins.
