Disclosure’s Guy and Howard Lawrence had quite a lot of pressure on them following the insurmountable success of 2013’s Settle. In particular, with how much air time it received on radio stations, DJ sets and streaming services the world over, it’s safe to say that nobody will forget the grating melody of its hit single, “Latch,” anytime soon.

By my measure, though, “Omen” from Disclosure’s follow-up album, Caracal, was easily the superior of the two tracks. While both featured vocals by English singer-songwriter Sam Smith, there was a darkness in “Omen” that somehow captured the helplessness of love more strikingly than the lackadaisical sing-song of “Latch.”
