In the moments before she died, Renee Nicole Good literally said “I’m not mad at you” to the ICE agents. The next minute, we hear gunshots and an evil disdain. The new footage shows a stark contrast between a human being and the machinery that ended her life.
Newly released footage from the fatal ICE encounter in Minneapolis reveals an extraordinary contradiction in Renee Good’s final moments. As an ICE agent circled her vehicle during a Jan. 7 immigration enforcement action, Good is heard addressing him directly and peacefully: “That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad at you.”
She spoke to the agent in a conversational tone, using language that is hardly menacing. But after that exchange, ICE agent Jonathan E Ross fired three shots right at Good’s face. After her SUV slid away and crashed, the video captured a slur directed at her. The ICE agent can be heard muttering “f—ing bitch” as bystanders erupt in horror.
That audio contrast shows calm humanity on one side, and a dehumanizing insult on the other. Since going viral, the audio has become the focal point of national outrage. The video also cuts straight through the competing narratives offered by federal officials and local leaders. It clearly shows that Good didn’t shout or threaten the agent.
Renee Nicole Good was clearly not violent or threatening
Federal spokespeople have characterized Good’s actions as violent and assertive, alleging she “weaponized her vehicle” to run over officers. President Trump echoed these claims, describing the incident as a “vicious situation” where an agent believed his life endangered. But, he too, could not prove his claims when the bystander videos were played.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also explicitly rejected the federal narrative after reviewing video evidence himself (via Reuters). It’s clear that Good did not use an agitated or aggressive language federal agencies later attributed to her actions. And the angles make a strong case that she was only trying to drive away, not into the agent.
Social media is furious after the new video release, Republicans keep mum
Across social media, people have become even more steadfast in their opinion that the shooting was cold-blooded murder. “Literally the way she’s turning the wheel proves she didn’t try to hit him. He literally leaned towards the front of the vehicle to get a clean shot, which is why he got bumped,” a user argued, focusing on the footage’s implications.
“Zero emotional tolerance,” another wrote, suggesting that the slur captured on audio reflects something deeper than a momentary lapse. “He murdered her for laughing at him and driving away,” another user wrote. Sadly, that assertion doesn’t seem too far fetched.
However, people were not surprised at the agent’s vile words uttered after literally committing a murder. As one user said, “Are we surprised? They are monsters. They are not human. Call them what they are, murderers.” If anything, the new video proves that the agent lacked any empathy whatsoever.
Yet, this lack of empathy seems to be a qualification criteria to be a Republican in this country. No GOP member has yet come forward to acknowledge this new video and criticize the ICE agent’s actions. Instead, JD Vance has claimed that the agent has full immunity from any consequences. He’s a war hero for them.
