26yo woman vomits blood, paramedics suspect appendicitis, but she gets a baby boy just days after negative pregnancy test

26-year-old British woman Megan Isherwood‘s life took a surprising turn while she was on her way to the hospital after waking up with severe pain in the right side of her body.

On Sept. 9, 2025, Isherwood, a resident of Burnley, Lancashire, woke up at 4 pm with insufferable pain. She asked her friend, Gabbie Rose, 26, to drop off a bottle of Coke as she felt her blood sugar was low, but soon started vomiting up blood. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Rose immediately called 111 and an ambulance arrived within an hour.

During their initial check-up, the paramedics suspected appendicitis, citing the concentration of the pain on the right side of her body as well as her high heart rate and nausea. However, when she arrived at the intensive care unit of the local Blackburn hospital at 5:30 pm, blood began gushing out of her, soaking the bed. She was then rushed into a room and told how “15 doctors were crowded around her trying to find out what was wrong.” (via Mirror)

As soon as the doctors decided to do a CT scan and an ultrasound to rule out pregnancy, they found “a head and a foot.” Isherwood was then blue-lighted to Burnley hospital for better care, as they have a midwifery unit. Recalling the next hour, she revealed:

“On the way there, the paramedic said to me If I need to push, just let them know and push hard. As soon as she said that, it was like something clicked, and I just needed to push. The next thing you know, they told me, ‘Congratulations, it is a boy.’ I was so shocked and flustered, I couldn’t believe what had just happened.”

The birth of the baby boy, whom she named Jackson, came as a complete surprise to Isherwood as she revealed she had taken a negative test days earlier. He was born 33 weeks early, weighing 4.6lbs, and faced severe complications minutes after his birth. Luckily, he was saved by the paramedics in the ambulance and was shifted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit upon arrival at the hospital.

“I was speechless – I couldn’t believe what had just happened. I had no bump, no symptoms at all; he just came out of nowhere. I wouldn’t change anything for it other than I wish Jackson had let me know that he was around before he was born. He is a miracle,” Isherwood shared.

While both Isherwood and her baby boy were diagnosed with sepsis, they made a full recovery and have been happily living at home since Sept. 25. Her local community also came forward to help her out with supplies after word got around about her surprise baby boy.
