‘Are you in here?’: Building residents swear they can hear woman’s muffled screaming and banging, but maintenance claims it’s just pipes

A concerning video has been making the rounds online as viewers fear that it might depict a woman being held captive in a building in Empire City, Malaysia. In the original video, which has since been taken down, what sounds to be a woman’s muffled cries can be heard coming from what looks to be a utility closet; however, nobody can be seen inside.

The disturbing video has been posted across social media, with viewers expressing concern over the whole situation. It seems the original was posted to Facebook by Ai Niruzawa, the video shows someone investigating what appears to be an empty utility closet after hearing strange sounds. There is a moment of silence before what many viewers have described as a muffled cry can be heard. A man behind the camera calls out, “Hey! Are you in here?”

The muffled noises continue, but it’s clear that if it really is a person, they are unable to speak beyond the sounds heard in the video. Viewers noted it sounded like a woman and speculated that she was being held captive.

The person behind the camera suggests calling the police at one point before trying to communicate with whoever, or whatever, is making the noise. A woman’s voice is also heard behind the camera; she and the man try their best to determine what floor the person is on, but the response they get is difficult to decipher.

The police get involved

According to Bobbie Curtis Lee, an Instagram influencer who covers all things weird and creepy, the police were contacted. Lee claimed the authorities only checked a few units before leaving but added the noises had since stopped.

Maintenance workers in the building also claimed that the noise heard in the video was actually coming from the pipes seen in the closet. On Reddit, some claimed it was certainly possible: “I’ve heard pipes makes creepier sound[s].” However, Lee shared a comment from a person claiming to be a plumber of ten years; they claimed that pipes would not make such a sound.

Another twist was added to the tale after a Threads account seemingly belonging to the original poster asked people to “stop asking me [for] updates about the situation,” before adding, “I cannot speak or update on the situation anymore due to “legal” issues.” When someone asked if he was under a “gag order,” the apparent OP confirmed that he was.

Many have been following the situation since the video was posted last week. The hope was that there would be a conclusive answer as to who, or what, was causing the noise. However, the alleged gag order seems to have confirmed for many that something fishy is actually going on.

“The fact that there’s a gag order means a lot of people are involved and are well aware of what’s going on,” commented one Threads user. Of course, it’s possible that the person on Threads is simply impersonating Ai Niruzawa, or this could all be an elaborate hoax from Ai Niruzawa
