When Maryland food vendor, Muhsin Sarac, realized a customer had swiped $30 worth of tips from his tip jar he likely thought he’d never see that money again. But a surprising twist saw the mother of the unknown thief show up to Sarac’s stand and make a heartwarming gesture that proves there is still good in humanity.
Sarac often livestreams his days working in a food truck in Maryland under the username “Musa_usa.” According to an article from the New York Post, On the evening of March 27th while preparing food, a customer approached the truck to place an order. They asked for a cheesesteak and Sarac informed them that he was livestreaming.
As the street vendor was preparing the man’s food the customer dipped his hand into the tip jar and pulled out a handful of cash, covering for his theft by pretending that he had just got the money out of his pocket. When Sarac turned his back the man snuck away, making off with about $30 of Sarac’s hard-earned tips. It may not seem like much but having anything stolen can be a demoralizing experience.
Luckily the whole incident was caught on camera thanks to the livestream. The chat quickly informed Sarac of what had happened. “Did he steal or not?” he asked, “I couldn’t see,” and then, after realizing what happened, “I think he stole the money. He stole like $20. Are you f–king serious?” Shortly afterward he called the police and officers informed him that they already knew the man. Sarac noted, “He seemed nice, why is he doing this?”
The customer’s mother makes amends
Four days passed and Sarac had likely forgotten all about the run-in with the thief. But to his surprise he was approached by a woman who explained that she was the thief’s mother. “A little while ago, a young man came to your stand and took money out of your tip jar. I’m his mother,” she told him.
She went on to ask how much her son had stolen from him and Sarac told her that roughly $30 had been taken. The woman immediately fished out $30 from her purse and handed it over to him. While he told her she didn’t need to pay she responded, “No, I want to pay, because my son wasn’t raised like that,” before going on to explain that her son drinks and “does stupid stuff.”
“I want to pay you back because you don’t deserve to be stolen from.” the woman says, “He took it from your tip jar. $30 goes back to your tip jar.” She also revealed that her son was now getting treatment.
After the sweet interaction Sarac asks if he can give her a hug and thanked her for her heartwarming actions showing that all was forgiven.
