Drama at Disneyland as alleged phone charger ignites during ‘It’s a Small World’, smoke fills ride as guests flee

Thankfully no injuries reported.

Disneyland guests were forced to evacuate the ‘It’s a Small World’ ride in California yesterday after plumes of acrid smoke filled the room.

The cause, according to witnesses, was a guest’s portable phone charger allegedly igniting inside their bag. As per the NY Post, a witness who gave her name as “Hanna” claimed her family was involved and that the incident began when a child placed a bag containing a brand new magnetic portable charger between their legs, which suddenly burst into flames.

Cast members went into emergency mode and returned with fire extinguishers to douse the flames. They succeeded without the ride suffering major damage, and there are no reports of injuries to guests or staff.

Footage of the incident posted online by “Coach Bragg” shows the aftermath, with brown smoke filling the room as guests evacuate while wondering what the cause was.

“Everyone is okay, including the ride itself!

Replies were adamant that Disney shouldn’t be held responsible for this incident, with one saying: “This was a guest’s portable charger exploding – not Disney or the ride. You can blame them for a lot, but not this one…” Another, who says they’re a Disney cast member, replied, saying, “This is correct. SW CM here! Everyone is okay, including the ride itself.”

Disney Parks has not publicly confirmed the cause of the reported fire and smoke as of writing.

In April 2025, (as reported by Mickey News) Disneyland suffered a much more serious fire when a blaze erupted on the upper levels of the Pixar Pals parking garage in Anaheim. That incident, which was eventually traced back to a Toyota RAV4, spread to several nearby vehicles before being brought under control by the fire department.

In addition, in 2023, an animatronic dragon went up in flames during a showing of Fantasmic at its California park. This caused Disney to announce they were “temporarily suspending fire effects” across its parks and “out of an abundance of caution following the Fantasmic prop fire at Disneyland park.”

But, despite these fires, Disneyland can still credibly claim to be “The Happiest Place on Earth”. Disneyland itself has an “A” grade from DoorProfit when it comes to crime and safety stats, saying “this neighborhood is very safe”.

As such, the usual drama out of Disneyland comes in small incidents like a confused guest wondering why the tap water is cloudy or annoyance over JD Vance allegedly ordering Disneyland closed to the public while he and his family visit.
