Florida drivers stunned as a plane makes emergency landing into traffic on I-95 highway

A plane emergency landed on top of a Toyota Camry on the I-95 highway near Orlando this Monday, Dec. 8. The video of the plane landing has since gone viral on TikTok after a car’s dash camera caught the entire thing on video — rarely do people see an actual crash landing that clearly. Reportedly, nobody was killed, but one person was immediately rushed to the hospital.

In the video that has since been reposted by CNN on TikTok, the driver can be heard having a casual conversation with a passenger before the multi-engine Beechcraft swoops in from the right upper side of the driver’s windshield. Within the blink of an eye, the plane fell on top of a Toyota Camry that was traveling down I-95.

Toyota Camry are some of the most beloved and safe cars on the road — so the driver thankfully survived. The driver was injured though, and he was transported to the hospital for further treatment. According to People, there have still not been any further reports on how the survivor is doing now. It has been confirmed that the driver is a middle-aged 57-year-old who ended up only sustaining minor injuries.

The larger public might not know this, but so much more of a pilot’s training involves how to prepare them for emergency landings. There will always be mistakes somewhere, but the goal is always harm reduction when dealing with issues that could pluck a plane from the sky. It’s highly likely that according to the 27-year-old pilot, the highway was the safest place he could land the plane without anyone losing their lives.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reportedly already looking into the case. There have been earlier emergency landings, and the FAA will be looking to find if there’s a pattern being caused by something being done wrong in the industry. It was just recently when members of the FAA were complaining about the concerning situation at air traffic control centers.

Reportedly, the accident led to the closure of the highway around the 201-mile marker and a collection of agencies joining together to find initial findings, trying to find further answers on what caused the accident. This is usually the most important part of the investigation because the idea is to find ways of teaching budding pilots how to make such emergency landings even safer.

By now, the investigators have probably already moved to questioning the pilot and his passenger, who was of the same age. They will then move to analyzing the black box and check if the story lines up with what actually got recorded in the cockpit of the plane.

The local authorities did not give comment on what happened and chose instead to focus on the investigations. But the photos that have been released from the accident showcase that while the pilot, driver, and passenger were largely unharmed — they can’t say the same about their machinery. The plane has heavy damage on its nose and the car looked pretty much like it’s headed for a write-off.
