A man in Florida has been hospitalized after trying to “do the right thing” and help a man he believed to have been involved in a car accident. Hans Hamilton suffered a brain bleed and broken ribs after being viciously beaten by Daniel Coman on the side of a highway on March 30th.
Hamilton was travelling along the 429 Expressway near to Walt Disney World when he noticed a Lexus which had smashed into the guard rail and was sitting on the grass verge just off the road according to the New York Post.
Doing what any decent person would do in that situation he pulled over with the intention of offering assistance to whoever had crashed the car. The driver, who would later be identified as Daniel Coman, had managed to get out of the vehicle but was lying motionless on the grass. A video captured by the Tesla vehicle’s camera and obtained by News 6 shows the moment Hamilton pulled up.
Almost instantly, Coman sits bolt upright and begins running towards Hamilton’s Tesla. He can be seen jumping on the hood of the vehicle before stomping on the windscreen, shattering it.
Daniel Coman’s brutal assault puts Hamilton in the hospital
Footage from another angle on the car shows Coman tackling Hamilton to the ground before repeatedly pummeling his face with his fists. The painful struggle goes on for about 30 seconds before Hamilton is able to pull himself up and get on top of Coman and fight back. The footage shows him walking away as Coman lies on the ground.
Later, a sheriff showed up at the scene and he too was reportedly attacked by the man. Despite his injuries, Hamilton helped the officer detain the crazed man.
In the end Hamilton walked away from the whole interaction with some serious wounds including a brain bleed, concussion, contusions and broken ribs. He has launched a GoFundMe to help cover the medical costs and damage done to his vehicle.
Speaking about the incident he claimed that he only wanted to “do the right thing,” but unfortunately that led to him being mercilessly beaten for no reason by a complete stranger. “This person tried to kill me,” Hamilton said, “I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did.” He went on to add that the whole event had left its mark on him both physically and emotionally.
As for Daniel Coman, he has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, assault on a law enforcement officer, battery, and criminal mischief. He was scheduled to appear in court earlier in the week but was absent due to him being hospitalized. The reason for his hospitalization has not been disclosed.
