Woman survives month alone in wilderness by eating berries and mushrooms. The reason she was running from explained how she ended up there

Lost 50 pounds, gained zero regrets about ditching those criminals.

A 25-year-old woman was found alive after being lost in the woods for almost a month. Lisa Theris from Louisville survived by eating berries and wild mushrooms she found in the forest. A driver spotted her on Highway 82 in Midland, Alabama when he saw something moving in the bushes and decided to turn around and check.

When Theris was found, she had lost about 50 pounds and her body was covered with scratches and insect bites, as per Independent. She had been walking through thick forest with no shoes, phone, or bag for nearly 28 days. Her family was extremely happy and relieved when they heard she was still alive.

The reason Theris ended up in the woods was because she was trying to get away from two men she had been with. These men went on to rob a hunting lodge, but Theris wanted nothing to do with it. She told police that she ran away because she did not want to be involved in the robbery. Sheriff Raymond Rodgers said she ran into the forest at night and got lost because she did not know the area well. While she was lost, she drank water from a stream and ate berries and wild mushrooms to stay alive.

How did she manage to survive for so long?

When police found Theris, they did not ask her too many questions right away. Sheriff Rodgers said they wanted to get her to the hospital first to make sure she was okay. He mentioned that insects had bothered her constantly and she had scratch marks all over her body. Getting her healthy was more important than getting answers at that moment.

Theris’s sister Elizabeth talked to reporters about what her sister went through. She said Lisa was very weak, hurting, and had lost a lot of weight. Elizabeth explained that every part of her sister’s body had been affected by what happened. But even with all the pain and suffering, the family was just grateful she made it out alive. In another story of something unsettling discovered in a home, a family threw away a hallway mirror after their dog refused to walk past it, only to find something disturbing the next day.

Police are still looking into what exactly happened during those weeks Theris was alone in the forest. They have not shared many other details about the case yet. What happened shows how dangerous Alabama’s thick forests can be, but also how strong people can be when they need to survive.

Elizabeth said her family felt lucky that Lisa was alive and talked about how strong her sister was for getting through such a hard time. Right now, everyone is focused on helping Lisa recover and heal from everything she went through in the wilderness. While her story is one of survival against the odds, it pales in comparison to the shocking tip a waitress received in a single night that left even experienced bartenders stunned.
