What better way to usher in the beginning of Halloween 2014 than by shooting giant monsters in the face, right? Well, it seems as though 2K has a similar mindset, after the publishing announced plans to hold a closed alpha for Evolve — aptly titled The Evolve Big Alpha — at the end of October.

For those on PC and PlayStation 4, the bout of testing will kick off on October 31st and will run right through until November 2nd. It’s worth noting that Xbox One players are entitled to a 24-hour head start over other platforms and will be able to jump into Turtle Rock Studios’ co-op shooter a day early, on October 30th.

In fact, the game’s planned January beta will be available exclusively on Xbox One, with Microsoft’s platform also receiving the game’s DLC first in the vein of Call of Duty’s expansion packs.

In a press release, 2K teased fans with what to expect when the game finally releases in the early stages of next year. For the uninitiated, Evolve centers around a four-man fire-squad tasked with defeating a raging monster — be it the Goliath or Kraken. What’s interesting, though, is that a fifth player will take control of the beast in the online arena, taking full advantage of the lush environment and its own menacing abilities.

“The Evolve game will feature a variety of maps, one of which being a large jungle, with some industrial elements where players can take shelter. There are various power ups that can be taken by both hunters and monster players through killing the local wildlife.”

Following its recent delay, Evolve will now roar onto Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on February 10th, 2015. For now, you can feast your eyes on the explosive new trailer above.
