The first of five free DLC heroes for Battleborn has been given a confirmed launch date by 2K Games today, with an earlier release coming for Season Pass holders. PlayStation 4 open beta participants will also get first dibs on the new hero, with a Hero Key being sent out as a thank you for taking part.

So, who is Battleborn‘s first added hero? Her name is Alani, and her official bio reads as follows:

A member of the Eldrid faction who was raised as a healer, but forced to be a warrior, Alani is all that remains of her order after Rendain’s Jennerit Imperium stole the oceans from her world. As a warrior from a planet with vast seas, Alani’s attacks and abilities revolve around her power to control water to dish out pain, or heal her fellow Battleborn.

Alani will be available through general release on May 31, with the early access players able to start playing as her a week earlier on May 24.

As well as announcing Alani’s arrival, 2K have also confirmed the details of a Double XP event due to run over the course of this weekend. Starting on Friday May 20 and running right through to Wednesday May 25, you can reap the rewards of earning double Command Rank and Character Rank experience in all Story Mode missions and Competitive Multiplayer matches. This event is global and available to all platforms; all you need to do is jump into battle and bask in double XP glory.

Battleborn released at the beginning of this month for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and you can check out our review of the game right here to get our thoughts on it.
