Bethesda’s Fallout 4 Instructional Series Talks Perception

After taking us back to the days of 1950s instructional videos with the first instalment of its Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats series, Bethesda has returned with another campy lesson. This time around, however, things focus on Perception, another important skill that has different ways of aiding one’s quest through the wasteland.

Unlike Strength, its macho predecessor, Perception is all about using one’s mind to overcome obstacles. It not only helps you discover threats, but also aids the game’s VATS targeting system, which can be used to identify enemies’ weak spots or simply target specific areas on their person. After all, as the video aptly says, “It is the unfortunate truth that when you go above ground, you will be faced with many post-nuclear nuisances.”

In addition to helping with combat and awareness, a high Perception stat can also help you perform morally questionable tasks, like looting NPCs’ items or sneaking a live hand grenade into someone’s pocket. So, keep that in mind if you plan to be a mischievous jerk.

Make sure to check back for the next episode, which will undoubtedly focus on Endurance, and should be released sometime next week.
