Series creator Ken Levine has announced on his Twitter account that BioShock Infinite no longer includes any multiplayer modes and will be single-player only. The Tweet confirms months of speculation and reports that the game’s multiplayer had been trimmed alongside certain staff departures at Irrational Games.

BioShock Infinite‘s confirmed single-player status puts the title back inline with the original game in the series, and leaves BioShock 2 as the only title to have featured a competitive multiplayer mode.

Considering the outstanding narrative in the BioShock franchise, and the lukewarm reception of BioShock 2‘s multiplayer, it is doubtful that many fans will complain about this news. If anything, I would suspect that Infinite‘s renewed focus on its single-player campaign will strengthen the title and not harm the end product in any way.

BioShock Infinite is scheduled to launch on February 26, 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Let us know what you think of the game’s confirmed single-player only status in the comments below.
