PS3 owners got the short straw recently when the PSN was compromised for nearly a month, and all the content that should have been available on the store was put in lock down. The third batch of DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops creatively named Annihilation, has been open to the Xbox 360 Black Ops install base for over a month now.
If you’re a PS3 user, and feeling a bit left out, then we have good news for you. Treyarch have confirmed that you’ll be able to pick up the expansion content when it launches on July 28th.
As most of you should know by now; Microsoft have signed a very profitable contract with Activision that gives them a first dibs month of DLC exclusivity for any extra virtual goodness a Call Of Duty game is due to receive. It’s always been to the great annoyance of PC and PS3 owners, and it doesn’t appear that anything is going to change because it has already been announced that the first round of Modern Warfare 3 DLC, will be a timed Xbox 360 exclusive.
The blurb on the Black Ops website describes what PS3 fans should expect with the Annihilation DLC:
“Obliterate the competition with “Annihilation,” the newest downloadable content pack for “Call of Duty: Black Ops”, with 4 unique Multiplayer Maps and a wild new locale for the latest in unrelenting Zombies action”.
“Jump in to battle on Multiplayer with: “Hangar 18,” located in the highly classified military base of Area 51 where you will fight through experimental weapons labs, the SR-71 test hangar, and a mysterious autopsy room; “Drive-In,” close quarters combat through a 60’s American Drive-In theater, whose last showing was “Attack of the…”, complete with a snack shack and a classic arcade; “Silo,” infiltrate a massive secret Soviet nuclear missile site under construction in this multilevel battleground; and “Hazard”, play through this coastal golf course fit for a Dictator, on the cliff sides of Cuba, where stocked clubhouses and manicured fairways meet snipers hidden in sand traps”.
“Zombies are back in “Annihilation”, as players unearth the mysteries of “Shangri-La,” a legendary shrine lost in an exotic jungle, where new undead species lurk within a treacherous labyrinth of underground caverns. Navigate through deadly traps and solve the dark secrets buried within the shifting walls of this zombie infested temple”.
July 28th PS3 fans, it’s not very far at all! Expect pricing to be the same as previous packs.
