If you thought that videogames couldn’t get more cinematic, then get a load of this.
Electronic Arts’ Bioware studio has signed on with Black Swan soundtrack composer Clint Mansell for the soundtrack in the PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 game Mass Effect 3. Known as  “one of modern cinema’s most expressive and inventive soundtrack composers,” Mansell has also worked on the soundtracks for other films that include The Wrestler and The Fountain.
Mansell describes his soundtrack delivery in saying “You’ve got the holding pattern, then the big explosion where you need the score to kick in,” and compares his music delivery as being “more like a DJ” in nature.
Mansell also adds that from there, “…you need to take it off on a tangent. You’ve got all these different elements that change depending on what the player does. You have to figure out an overall symphony, but be able to break it down into component parts. You can bring the pain when required.”
Are you looking forward to Mansell’s Mass Effect 3 soundtrack?
