In a clever attempt at getting more people to buy its fledgling Wii U console, Nintendo has decided to offer those who purchase the Wii version of Skylanders: Trap Team a download code for its current-gen sibling. This deal came to light following a post on the game’s Twitter page, which we’ve embedded below.

Nintendo is thinking outside of the box with this move, and it’s one that could help spur sales of its struggling console. That said, even if its impact isn’t immediately seen, this promotion will, at the very least, act as an educator for those who don’t follow the industry. After all, many aren’t aware of the fact that the Wii U is its own, technologically advanced system, and not a Wii expansion.
Skylanders: Trap Team — which you can now pre-order — is expected to launch on October 5, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and 3DS.
