Capcom Now Recruiting US Fans To Test New Resident Evil Game

Capcom has a secret project brewing behind closed doors and it smells distinctly like Resident Evil. Last week, the developer began sending out emails to members of its Ambassador program in Japan, cordially inviting fans to come and test a mysterious new game in early development. Up until now, many had presumed that the tryout period was exclusive to those living in the developer's native country, but that's no longer the case.

Twitter user Patrick Copeland recently posted an image (via Silliconera) of his own invitation sent by Capcom, this time in English.

In identical fashion to its Japanese counterpart, the email stops short of specifying what series this super-secret project pertains to or, for that matter, if it even belongs to an existing IP at all. With that said, requests have so far only been received by those specifically signed up to be a Resident Evil Ambassador, so it’s only logical to assume that the two are connected. Furthermore, the summons specifically requests that participants have played at least one title in the series beforehand. If that’s not evidence enough, I don’t know what is.

Regardless, today’s development lines up perfectly with the revelation yesterday that Capcom will be attending Gamescom later this month. Putting the puzzle pieces together, it looks increasingly likely that the developer will show its hand at the event in Germany before allowing fans the chance to provide feedback at one of these invite-only affairs. What’s still irritatingly unclear, however, is whether the next chapter in Resident Evil‘s long-running history is intended to push the narrative forward or revisit past events.
