Confirmed in Gamespot’s updated preview of Batman: Arkham City, Catwoman will be a playable character in the game. This will not be in a separate mode like Joker in Arkham Asylum but will be playable in a short section of the story mode.
Developers Rocksteady wanted to ensure playing as Catwoman felt different than playing as Batman. As such, the way in which the player fights, navigates the city and examine the environment will be different than the caped crusader.
Because she doesn’t have the grappling hook nor the cape that Batman uses to get around, Catwoman will rely on her agility and parkour-like moves. Selina has different motivations than Batman and so instead of detective mode, Catwoman has thief vision, which clues her in to all the information she needs to steal. In terms of combat, she’ll mostly be using punches and kicks with access to only three gadgets, including a bolo.
Rocksteady‘s Dax Ginn noted that while you’ll only be playing as Catwoman for a short portion of the story, she has her own progression path and just like Batman, her moves and gadgets will also be upgradable. There will also be several Riddler trophies that only she can reach using her agility.
Batman: Arkham City will be released on October 18th for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 but in the meantime, check out Catwoman’s showcase video below.
