What’s the one thing Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 7, the wildly successful Resident Evil 2 remake and Devil May Cry 5 all have in common? Capcom, of course, and it’s fair to say the Japanese giant is on something of a roll.
All four games exceeded expectations in their own right – most recently with DMC 5, which we hailed as a “crowning achievement in design.” It’s a super-slick love letter to the Devil May Cry games of old, while the three-character setup (V, Nero, and Dante) brought something new to the table.
Suffice it to say, with scores of positive reviews already under its belt, Devil May Cry 5 has been celebrated as a resounding success by all four corners of the industry, leading to this impassioned message from Kiichiro Urata, CEO of Capcom America:

And we’re inclined to agree. Releasing Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 7, the nostalgia-powered RE2 remake and Devil May Cry 5 in quick succession is an incredible achievement by anyone’s standards, and further proof that Capcom has rediscovered its groove after a spell of mediocrity and disappointment – here’s looking at you, Street Fighter V.
To their credit, SFV has come on in leaps and bounds since its troubled release (server issues cast a dark cloud over the brawler’s 2016 launch) though Capcom never lost sight of its vision. And still managed to salvage a competent fighting game when all was said and done.
Devil May Cry 5, on the other hand, is currently available across PS4, Xbox One and PC and will soon receive the iconic Bloody Palace game mode as part of a free update. Keep your peepers peeled.
