Contrast Dev Compulsion Games’ Next Project Involves “Drugs, Masks And Memory Loss”

When it launched in tandem with the PlayStation 4 back in 2013, Compulsion Games' puzzle platformer Contrast proved to be a peculiar yet entertaining experience with its distorted architecture and ambigious lead. But for the studio's sophomore effort, Compulsion looks set to take the eccentricity to a whole new level, promising that its next title will include "drugs, masks and memory loss." How's that for a back-of-the-box quote?

When it launched in tandem with the PlayStation 4 back in 2013, Compulsion Games‘ puzzle platformer Contrast proved to be a peculiar yet entertaining experience with its distorted architecture and ambiguous lead. But for the studio’s sophomore effort, Compulsion looks set to take the eccentricity to a whole new level, promising that its next title will include “drugs, masks and memory loss.” How’s that for a back-of-the-box quote?

Taking to its official blog, Compulsion stated that while development on Contrast laid the foundations for the creative team working in the console space, this as-yet-untitled project gives the developer a chance to spread its wings.

“What we can say is that it’s not a sequel to Contrast,” Compulsion said in its blog. “We haven’t ruled out doing one in the future, but after so long working on Contrast, we wanted to make something fresh. Something new and exciting. It involves masks, drugs and memory loss, but we swear it’s not a swinger’s party.”

The announcement came tethered with some concept art for said project — which you can check out via the gallery below — though Compulsion remained coy on revealing any specific details for the follow-up. Will it orbit around puzzle mechanics much like its stylistic forebearer? Or will the studio make for the road less travelled and mix with the formula?

Alas, we’ll have to adopt the wait-and-see approach. Going off of the concept art, however, it would appear that Compulsion Games‘ next title will at least boast a similar aesthetic as Contrast, though whether it can emulate on the downloadable title’s success is another question entirely.
