Deep Silver is continuing on with the Dead Island brand, it seems, as the Australian Classification Board has rated a new game called Dead Island: Retro Revenge. Campy, silly sounding and likely another spin-off, it comes as a bit of a surprise given the series’ somewhat recent issues.
As you likely know, Dead Island 2 — which is supposedly still in development — was delayed for an undetermined amount of time, after the publisher became disappointed with how the sequel was turning out. The publisher even went so far as to get rid of the game’s developer, Yager, which was previously responsible for Spec-Ops: The Line. And, since we haven’t heard much about that project in recent months, we’re not sure as to whether this is its spiritual successor, a new subtitle, or an entirely new game.
Dead Island: Retro Revenge is apparently being handled by Empty Clip Studios, a developer that previously released rhythm game, Groovin’ Blocks, for Wii U, and a shoot ’em-up called Symphony for PC.
Other than the above, all we know right now is that Dead Island: Retro Revenge is rated “M” for “bloody violence” and that it’s listed as a “computer game” with “online functionality.” You can rest assured that we’ll keep you up-to-date on the project as it develops further, though, so stay tuned.
