The Dungeons & Dragons name brand has been around since 1974 and has encompassed many worlds and remakes. But, up until now it has yet to be featured as a downloadable freeform title. Times are changing though, more and more we are seeing high quality titles being released for the digital distribution area of gaming, and now D&D is taking a swing at it with its newest title Daggerdale, which is currently slated for a Spring release.

Daggerdale is centered on the Dalelands area of the D&D world, Forgotten Realms. This latest release will put players up against the desperate struggle to defeat the wholly evil Rezlus and his Zhentarim in their attempt to invade and conquer the Dalelands. Charged with restoring the order of Nentir Vale, players can team up in a new multiplayer experience featuring a new four player co-op mode to tackle Rezlus’s dastardly plans.

“The Dungeons & Dragons franchise remains a priority for Atari as we continue to build upon the ever-evolving narrative with Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale. As the first D&D cross-platform digital download title we look forward to expanding the franchise to a growing gaming audience.” – Jim Wilson, President and CEO of Atari, Inc.

“Wizards of the Coast is excited to offer another great Dungeons & Dragons play experience. This exhilarating game will be a thrill for both current fans of the brand and new players alike.” – Liz Schuh, Brand Director at Wizards of the Coast.

Features are said to include the following:

Solo and Co-op Play: Battle the forces of Rezlus with up to three friends.
Questing: Combining both exploration and combat including a robust reward system for the progression of the player’s characters.
Immersive Combat: Battle through an ever increasing range of enemies using an intuitive “pick-up and play” melee, tactical ranged combat, and/or powerful spells.
Character Development: Custom build your ideal hero, pick from a multitude of classes, feats, powers, and skills. Collect loot and earn experience to help advance your character’s level.
Multiple Game Modes: Unlock new areas and challenges while playing the campaign mode, or hone your character’s impressive skills while playing in freeplay.
All in all Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale looks like a top pick for this spring, so be sure to download it and grab a friend or two, and bring devastation to evil forces of Rezlus and his Zhentarim army.

With intuitive controls and a wide assortment of weapons, features and powers at the player’s fingertips, Daggerdale is shaping up to be a truly gratifying experience to both new and old fans alike. Boasting an array of stunning levels and exploration opportunities set in the richly detailed environments, the adventure is sure to come to life like never before seen in the D&D world.
