Dean Dodrill, the creator of Humble Hearts studio, has announced that his acclaimed 2D action title, Dust: An Elysian Tail, is coming to the PlayStation 4. The game was originally released for the Xbox 360 back in 2012, and was later ported to the PC in 2013.
Set in the world of Falana, which is inhabited by anthropomorphic animals, Dust centers around the titular character as he struggles to remember who he is and where he came from. Sporting gorgeous 2D artwork and an intriguing story, the title was one of the more critically acclaimed games to launch for the Xbox 360. For our take on it, you can read our original review here.
Since this is not only a port of a title from two years ago, but also from a previous console generation, there will be a handful of upgrades coming with Dust. In order to fully explain these additions, Dodrill allowed Fidget, one of the many characters in the game, to talk about them.
“Now, if you can, imagine all this awesomeness is hand-drawn like an old animated movie from the 80’s and 90’s, but with art at crazy high resomolutions! Like, 1080p! People tell me that’s pretty darn good! Also, 60fps. I’m guessing that’s some sort of speed? Like, the speed of awesome? I don’t know much about these things, though. I mean, look at my hands! I’m not plugging anything into expensive TVs with these ham-hocks.”
As one of my favorite games of 2012, you better believe I’m excited about this upcoming port. Dust was already impressive enough on the Xbox 360, especially when you consider that title was almost single-handedly made by Dodrill. Now, with the added power of the PlayStation 4, it is poised to look and play even more impressively.
While no release date has been set for Dust: An Elysian Tail, Fidget did say that the title was coming soon, so expect it within the next few months.
