During Sony’s E3 2013 press conference last night, the platform holder announced that Avalanche Studios (the developers behind the popular Just Cause franchise) will release their long-overdue Mad Max game sometime next year.

As one might suspect from viewing the E3 trailer (embedded below), Avalanche Studios’ Mad Max is an open world, third-person adventure game set in The Wasteland of George Miller’s series of Mad Max films. We currently do not known much about the game, but it has been confirmed for a 2014 split-gen release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Additionally, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 4 version of Mad Max will feature some exclusive Road Warrior content.

God of War 2‘s director, Cory Barlog, was working with Avalance Studios on a Mad Max game that was based on Mad Max 4: Fury Road back in 2008, however, that relationship ended when Barlog joined Crystal Dynamics to work on Tomb Raider in March 2012. With the E3 reveal of Mad Max last night, it is clear that development on the title continued over the years and it was probably delayed due to the upcoming next-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Check out the E3 2013 trailer for Avalanche Studios’ Mad Max, and let us know your thoughts on the upcoming title in the comments below.
