After a one year hiatus, Electronic Arts has announced that they will be returning the world of golf with the upcoming EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. The title is currently slated for a June 2015 release, and will launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
For the series’ first debut on current-gen consoles, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will make full use of the powerful Frostbite 3 engine. Primarily used for the Battlefield franchise, the Frostbite engine will allow EA Tiburon to craft “the most detailed courses in franchise history.” Additionally, long-time announcers Jim Nantz and David Feherty will be replaced by The Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner and Frank Nobilo.
The new face of the franchise, Rory McIlroy, spoke on what it means to become the new cover star for PGA Tour.
I’m very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. This is a great honour, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up playing the sport. I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.
Despite this being the official unveiling of EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, we technically got our first look at the title back at E3 2014. Of course, back then it was just known as EA Sports PGA Tour 15, and had more of an emphasis on the absurd. It will be interesting to see if EA Tiburon is still planning on going in that direction, or if they will be returning to the more traditional way of the series.
We will continue to have coverage of EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour in the lead-up to its June release, so stay tuned!
