Exclusive Interview: Eduardo Ramírez Talks Fenix Furia

Late last year Costa Rican indie developer Green Lava Studios announced that they were changing the name of their breakout hit platformer Fenix Rage ahead of its console release. This wasn't a conscious rebranding effort, rather the studio had been hit with a cease and desist letter concerning the trademark for the term "Rage."

WGTC: Fenix Rage was a breakthrough hit for the studio, are there any desires to do a sequel in the future, or would you rather work on a new type of project?

ER: Regarding Fenix Furia, we still want to see how it goes on consoles. For now, we are making some big projects and weird experiments; for example: we got an experimental game greenlit in 22 days, which is nice.

WGTC: This is the first time Green Lava Studios has released a game on consoles. Has it been challenging bringing Fenix Furia to consoles? Do you feel like this is an important market for the studio in the future?

ER: It has been challenging, but we are learning from all this process. Of course, this market is important for us, but first, we need to see the results.

WGTC: With redesigned levels, a two-player mode, and a new difficulty, Fenix Furia is way more than a simple port. Will the added content come to PC at a later time?

ER: We are still deciding on that, I cannot confirm at this point.

WGTC: You recently said that Fenix Furia will be coming “soon” to PlayStation 4. Is there any chance you can tell us how soon is soon, and will the game also launch on Xbox One around the same time?

ER: Very soon, we are aiming to launch both versions at the same time.

WGTC: Give us your best pitch on why gamers should pick up Fenix Furia when it comes to consoles!

ER: The two player mode in Fenix Furia will make you want to punch your friend’s face… but with a smile!

That concludes our interview, but we’d like to give a big thank you to Eduardo Ramírez for taking the time to speak with us. Green Lava Studios can be found on Twitter at @GreenLavaStudio.
