After being leaked over the course of the past week, NetherRealm Studios announced that they would be debuting the first footage from Injustice 2 this weekend. And, sure enough, they delivered, as the action-packed footage wowed the crowd at the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League Season 3 Finals last night.

In the trailer seen above, we’re introduced to a few new faces as Injustice 2 showcase their fighting prowess. New combatants Supergirl, Gorilla Grodd and Atrocitus are all glimpsed delivering devastating beat downs to their opponents. Of course, it wouldn’t be a DC Comics game if the likes of Batman, Superman and Aquaman also didn’t show up to the party – and all three iconic heroes make an appearance here as well.

As to be expected, the footage strongly resembles both the original Injustice as well as NetherRealm’s other hit franchise, Mortal Kombat. Most importantly, however, the over-the-top interactive environments and special maneuvers have once again returned. As for the special moves, the Caped Crusader makes use of his vehicles, while Aquaman calls upon the creatures of the sea to do his bidding.

We also get a small look at one of the new features coming to the sequel, that of fighter customization. The trailer shows Batman, Grodd and Atrocitus cycling through several different unique looks. Obviously the video doesn’t go into how each of these outfits could effect the action, but it’s certainly clear that they will be different from the standard looks.

Injustice 2 is slated to hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017. Expect more information on the highly anticipated brawler to be unveiled during E3 this week.
