Is it just a coincidence that as Twisted Metal tries to find a new audience, a fleet of arcade racing games comes flying into the market? I’m definitely not complaining, however, because I’ve always been a huge fan of this genre. Fellow fans should be ecstatic to hear that a new title from fresh developers I-Friqiya will be blowing up their screens this spring: Fuel Overdose.
Featuring an isometric view reminiscent of games back from the blow-up-or-get-blown-up days, Fuel Overdose is looking to bring back the classic arcade racing shooter with a fresh new twist. According to their press release, I-Friqiya is aiming for a more tactical approach to the genre, introducing weapons that can be upgraded and other mechanics that can be used to create destruction in chaotic ways. Check out a description of what to expect below:
Action: From the large array of upgradable weapons one can expect for such a game, Fuel Overdose also features innovative and fun weapons and game mechanics such as a grapple that can be used both offensively and defensively, bomb detonators along the road, and a whole fighting system that offers unique skills moves and attacks to each character of the game.
Tactical: With Fuel Overdose, the choices made before and during the race have a real impact on your chances of success. The game leaves no room for luck and features a resource management system for the vehicles and weaponry, a super/ultra attack gauge inherited from the versus fighting genre as well as auction events than can bring a decisive edge to win races.
Racing: Fuel Overdose is not a combat-arena game, it is, at its core, a racing game that requires driving skills and that allows and values different racing styles and a diverse garage of vehicles, themselves all customizable to improve their driving and performance.
Gamers can find Fuel Overdose on PSN and PC sometime in spring of this year. We’ll definitely keep an eye out for any more information, as I-Friqiya look like they’re about to have an insanely fun hit on their hands.
