Japanese video game development company Game Freak has its eyes set on its next big project, which surprisingly doesn’t involve Pokémon. Oddly enough, this news caught gamers off guard since they didn’t expect the company to branch off into other non-Nintendo projects.
Private Division announced that it has partnered with Game Freak to produce an action-adventure name under the codename, “Project Bloom.” The video game publisher released a press statement, which stated its excitement to work with Game Freak in this new IP and shared a concept image of what the new game would look like.
Game Freak’s director Kota Furushima commented on the upcoming project, claiming that the company has always wanted to publish a new title with Private Division and that it’s looking forward to sharing new updates as development progresses.
“From the beginning, Private Division was the publisher we wanted to work with on our new game. Their track record and global expertise give us all the confidence to create a sweeping new action-adventure game that we can’t wait to share more about in the future.”
The news excited fans, especially those who grew up with the Pokémon games. Due to the ample time the video game company was given, there is some expectation that this game would perform even better compared to its previous releases. Looking at you Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
While Game Freak may be known for its work on the Pokémon franchise, it has released other titles outside of Nintendo. In 1992, the company developed Magical Taruruto for the Sega Genesis console, and in 2019, it released Giga Wrecker Alt and Little Town Hero, games that can be played on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Private Division has confirmed that “Project Bloom” has entered early development. An official release date has not yet been announced. However, Private Division predicts that “Project Bloom” could launch around 2026.
