It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through the year already, and while that might be a rather over-used phrase, it’s probably never felt so appropriate for gamers than in 2016. We’ve enjoyed a video gaming nirvana as a veritable tidal wave of new titles continue to launch in frantic succession. In fact, it feels as though every couple of weeks since the start of the year has brought with it either the debut of a new game or the promise of one just around the corner.
It’s certainly been an impressive first half of the year; a polar opposite to 2015 in which most of the notable titles were released much later in the year, and certainly a night and day difference to the sluggish release schedule of 2014. Of course, there is still plenty more to come, which makes this year easily one of the most exciting of the current console generation and could potentially be destined to be one of the all-time greats.
2016 really is racing by and even were to get no more games for the rest of the year, we’d still have done pretty well. May alone saw the release of Uncharted 4, DOOM, Homefront: The Revolution, Overwatch and Warhammer: Total War; it’s getting hard to keep up, let alone find the time to play all of these fantastic games.
With that in mind, we thought it might be fun to do a quick round up of the 2016’s biggest highlights so far and consider which of them are already in contention for Game of the Year.
So, without further ado, here are our top picks for GOTY so far.
