E3 is less than a week away, and the hype train is at full speed for many developers.

Earlier today, Arrowhead released a new trailer for their reboot of the famous PC series Gauntlet, and it does a good job of showing off the brand new relic system. It’s hard to tell what we’re really in for from such a short glimpse, but this certainly looks like the Gauntlet I grew up with (and had many a fight over).

The relic system is going to be Gauntlet‘s equivalent of gear. When equipped, these magical items will change your appearance and provide you with new combat abilities to slaughter your enemies with. This blurs the line between traditional Gauntlet gameplay and the more standard ARPG, and that just might be enough to add that extra kick the reboot desperately needs.

We’ll hopefully get some hands-on time with the game next week, so be on the lookout for our impressions. As for playing it yourself, you’ll have to wait until the game launches for the PC on September 3rd, so hang tight.

In the meantime, check out the new Gauntlet trailer below and let us know what you think.
