It has been six years since Grand Theft Auto V debuted to rave reviews and record-breaking sales figures, so it’s somewhat surprising that info about a direct follow-up has been so slim. At this point, Grand Theft Auto 6 feels somewhat like a mythical cryptid to video game fans; often spoken of in speculations, but with little evidence to prove its existence.
Now, however, we seem to have confirmation that the next numbered game is at least in the early stages of development, and it comes directly from a former Rockstar employee.
Fans of the highly controversial franchise have unearthed the resume of 3D artist Bibin Michael, who, up until last year, worked at Rockstar designing concepts for Red Dead Redemption 2. According to Bibin’s profile, he also served as a Jr. Vehicle Artist on GTA V DLC, and the “upcoming” Grand Theft Auto 6.
This wouldn’t be the first time GTA 6 has been spotted on a resume, as the game was falsely listed on the profile of a motion capture actor a few years ago. However, Bibin’s history at Rockstar is well established, and he was even listed in the credits of Red Dead Redemption 2. That being said, until Rockstar verifies that the next GTA title is in development, this leak should be taken with a grain of salt.
Rumors have been swirling online that Grand Theft Auto 6 will hit the market as early as 2020, but Rockstar hasn’t even officially confirmed that it’s in development at all. Thanks to Red Dead Redemption 2, 2018 was a huge year both critically and financially for the video game publisher, so now that western action sequel has captured our attention, its safe to say we’ll hear news regarding the next GTA game sooner rather than later.
