Grand Theft Auto V is shaping up to be a colossal game as a recent online Q&A session with Rockstar sheds some light on the upcoming, highly anticipated title. One of the big announcements was that the game will require a mandatory install that is a whopping 8 gigabytes on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With the large amount of data needed for the install, Rockstar will be shipping the 360 version with two discs.

From the blog post:

Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs.

While the Playstation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto V is a single disc, it will also feature the install, much like many other titles for the platform.

It’s impressive that Rockstar is clearly going all out to ensure the game is packed full of detail and from what has been shown so far, everything looks very impressive. That being said, having to wait a good ten or so minutes to even see the main menu screen may irritate some gamers.

Other news from the online post included the mention of some upcoming gameplay trailers, the reveal of the game’s multiplayer coming sometime later this summer, mentions of both car and weapon customization and a detailed account of how switching between the main three protagonists works.

Rockstar also took the time to assure players that both versions of the game will be almost identical to each other, notably with respect to performance, and that they are right on track to meet their release date of September 17th. It has been asked if GTA V will be coming to PC and next generation platforms but as it stands Rockstar has stated that they are only focusing on the two current-gen consoles.
