Sony has revealed that Helldivers will be launching for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita this summer. The top-down shooter is being developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, which previously released the action-adventure title Magicka and is also in charge of the recently announced Gauntlet reboot.
While the summer months are typically suited for more outdoor activity, fun can still be had indoors with Helldivers, thanks to its focus on four player co-op. The twin-stick shooter will have gamers blasting through randomly generated levels with an emphasis on brutal difficulty. Unlike similar shooters, though, Arrowhead Game Studios has opted to make friendly fire a main factor in the game and teams will have to have eyes on each other at all times in order to successfully navigate each battlefield.
Although Sony has not yet announced whether Helldivers will feature Cross-Buy support, we do know that the title will feature both Cross-Save and Cross-Play support. So, you can start your action at home on the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 and then take it on the go with the PlayStation Vita without having to worry about starting over again on each platform.
As a fan of any type of co-operative shooter, I’m quite interested in Helldivers. Although I imagine that I will spend more time accidentally mowing down my allies instead of killing enemies, due to the unforgiving friendly fire aspect, I’m still looking forward to jumping into some explosive action with a group of friends.
Helldivers will be available sometime this summer for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. We will be sure to let you know when Arrowhead Game Studios is ready to reveal an official date.
