Heroes Of The Storm’s Lunar Festival Event Now Live, Adds New Hero

Mimicking similar events taking place in Overwatch and World of Warcraft right now, Blizzard's MOBA Heroes of the Storm is itself celebrating the Chinese near year with the Lunar Festival - a limited-time occasion with some suitably-themed rewards. Available now until February 14, players who log in over the three week period will be greeted with new quests to complete, including a daily one to complete the Rooster Race, which awards 200 gold each time it's completed. Bargain. While additional completions in the same day won't award any extra currency, partaking in Rooster Race 25 times during the duration of the event will award players with a Rooster Portrait and the Lunar Rooster Mount.

If you’re already wondering what you’re going to spend all of that extra gold on, Blizzard’s provided the answer. New skins for characters Samuro and Li-Ming make up the contents of this year’s Lunar Festival bundle, which also includes the fluffy Nimbus Cloud mount. While not currently available to purchase separately, Blizzard says they will be in the future. Lastly, if you’ve been hoarding your spoils of war in anticipation of something very special to spend it on, you can pick up the Golden Rooster Mount from the in-game shop for a cool 10,000 gold.

As well as the above, yesterday’s patch introduced the new character Valeera Sanguinar, a deadly assassin and member of the Uncrowned. World of Warcraft players will no doubt be instantly familiar with the character, who also doubles as the figurehead of Hearthstone‘s Rogue class. Check out the description of her abilities below, courtesy of Blizzard.

  • Vigor – Increasing maximum Energy after collecting enough regen globes, Vigor rewards Valeera for traveling the map and ganking lanes, which is exactly what rogues love to do anyway.
  • Thistle Tea– Instantly restoring 100 Energy with a key-press, Thistle Tea enables Valeera players to continue their onslaught of abilities in the heat of combat, or to gain a full second bar of Energy and unload a devastating amount of damage when catching an opponent off-guard.
  • Assassinate – It’s every rogue’s dream to find an isolated and vulnerable target. Rewarding players for doing exactly that, Assassinate drastically increases Valeera’s Ambush damage against Heroes who are set apart from their teammates.
