Kenji Kaido, best known for producing the landmark titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, has announced that he has left Sony Computer Entertainment.

Kaido made the announcement over Twitter, stating;

“This August, I left Sony Computer Entertainment. My plans for the future are undecided as of now, but for the time being I’m going to continue my summer vacation.”

After beginning his career at Taito Corporation in 1987, Kaido joined Sony in 1997, where he worked on PSOne classics such as Ape Escape and Tomba! Of course, it’s Ico and Shadow of the Colossus which have left the biggest mark on the industry, topping many “best of” lists over the last several years.

It’s unknown whether or not Kaido had any involvement with Team Ico’s long-delayed The Last Guardian, but given the title’s increasingly long development cycle — as well as game director Fumito Ueda’s departure from Sony last year — it wouldn’t be farfetched to wonder if Last Guardian’s troubled development had something to do with his departure.

In any case, we here at We Got This Covered wish Kenji Kaido the best, and success in his future endeavors.
