During this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, there was an in-ring segment where The Authority (Triple H and Stephanie McMahon) announced that the current and 15-time WWE Champion John Cena would grace the cover of WWE 2K15.

Despite being the poster-boy of the company for nearly 10 years now, this is surprisingly the first time that John Cena will appear as the lone superstar on the cover of a WWE video game. Past years featured alternative fan favorite cover-boys such as The Rock, CM Punk, and Randy Orton.

For those of you that are sick and tired of seeing John Cena at the forefront of everything WWE related, it was not revealed if there is going to be an alternative packaging, but the chances are highly probable that there will be one. It has become a re-occurring thing without much reason to do away with the concept. It isn’t some expensive process; they’re just producing a reversible cover.

While I’m at it, I may as well nominate Paige as a reversible cover option. Are you listening, 2K? I want the freaking Diva of Tomorrow posing and screaming on the cover of my WWE 2K15!

Getting back on track, there was another interesting take-away from the reveal, although it really only matters if you follow WWE television. Essentially, for the first time that I’m aware of, WWE is sponsoring the game with a Sony product over a Microsoft product. It’s good to know that the company — which is usually clueless when it comes to mainstream pop-culture — is aware that there has been a mass exodus from the Xbox brand in favor of Sony’s dominance with the PlayStation 4.

WWE 2K15 is set to launch on both current and next-generation consoles October 28th.
