After the series spotlighted athletes such as Josh Donaldson and Adrian Gonzalez for past entries, MLB The Show 17 will pull from baseball’s past for cover duties next year. Seattle Mariner and Cincinnati Reds legend Ken Griffey Jr. will adorn the cover of 2017’s release, Sony announced today.
For those who grew up watching baseball in the 1990’s, Ken Griffey Jr. is one of the most imitated, and celebrated athletes of all time. A 13-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove winner and masher of 630 home runs, The Kid is an excellent choice for the cover of MLB The Show 17. This is just another accolade for the legend, as 2016 also saw him go into the Baseball Hall of Fame. For those that follow that process, you’ll know that this is no small feat.
As for the game itself, Sony has not revealed full specs for the title yet. While we wait for those details to arrive, possibly later this year, we can at least go over the different versions of MLB The Show 17 that will be available.
To celebrate the career of Junior, Sony is partnering up with New Era for the Hall of Fame Edition of the title. Retailing for $99.99, you’ll receive the following:
- New Era Hall of Fame Edition 9FIFTY Hat
- Limited Edition MVP Steel Book
- Digital Diamond Dynasty New Era Hall of Fame Edition 9FIFTY Hat for use in game
- Diamond Season Starter Pack (Includes Mission Starter for Diamond item)
- Gold Season Starter Pack (Includes Mission Starter for Gold item)
- 11,000 Stubs
- 1 Sponsor Pack
- 10 Standard Packs
- 31 MLB PS4 Themes
For those who prefer digital, the Digital Deluxe Edition of MLB 17 The Show includes all of the above, outside of the steel book and hat. And for those looking for a cheaper option, the MVP Edition of the title also boasts a solid amount of extras. Set to carry a cost of $69.99, the set includes:
- Limited Edition MVP Steel Book
- Gold Season Starter Pack (Includes Mission Starter for Gold Item)
- 5,000 Stubs
- 1 Sponsor Pack
- 10 Standard Packs
- 31 MLB PS4 Themes
Of course, there’s always the standard edition of the title for those that want a no-frills package. Regardless of what version you choose, though, MLB The Show 17 will arrive exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on March 28, 2017.
